User research
The largest piece of this project was figuring out how to design a system that allowed bill splitting between users. This app would need to include user and bank authentication to work properly. To determine how to best design this app, I needed to understand the problem and the user’s needs.
How are people paying their bills today?
How can you combine all bills into one app?
What is the process of splitting a bill?
What are the pain points of splitting a bill?
Some large questions I set out to answer during user research were:
Notification screen
To solve the problem of having to remind your friends family to pay the portion of their bill, a notification screen takes care of that for you. Notifications outline what your friends and family owe and will remind them so you don’t have to.
Mobile friendly
This app focuses on a mobile-first approach to organizing and paying bills. The user can easily keep track of all bills by using the pie graphic on the homepage as well as the cards that display all bills.
ADD A BILL
The user creates a bill by simply typing in the required information. When the user adds friends to split the bill, a pop-up appears with a list of friends to select from.
Organize & Pay
Once the user has created the bill, a Bill overview page appears, outlining all bill-related information. The user can then pay the bill from this screen.
Confirmation & Groups
Once the user has paid the bill, a confirmation screen appears outlining the bill, bill owner, and the user’s past, unpaid, and late bills. All bills are organized by groups the user creates.
